Plumber Greenacre

Greenacre 2190 is one of Canterbury-Bankstown’s busiest and most densely populated suburbs, a multicultural community built predominantly on housing stock dating from the pre-WWII era through to the 1950s and early 1960s. That housing era is significant for plumbing, because it means a substantial proportion of Greenacre’s residential and commercial properties still rely on original earthenware (clay) drain systems installed when the suburb was first developed. These older clay drains were designed and installed before Sydney’s residential tree planting culture reached its current maturity, before the figs, camphor laurels, and liquidambars now lining Greenacre’s streets grew root systems extending 15–25 metres from their trunks. When clay drain joints are stressed by seasonal ground movement, which Canterbury-Bankstown’s Ashfield Shale clay soil delivers reliably every dry summer, they open hairline cracks. Tree roots find those cracks within months. That’s the underlying reason Greenacre generates more blocked drain calls per household than Sydney’s newer outer-ring suburbs.
